Summary

GOKiC is looking for a Development Director to lead strategy and implementation of all aspects of fundraising and resource development at GOKiC including buildling a more robust individual donor strategy, designing a major giving campaign along with other campaigns,  event planning, grant writing management, budget and data management, as well as sharing stories to galvanize new donors, alumni, and community partners.

They will strategize and develop meaningful relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporations, and government agencies and partner with the Executive Director in fundraising. This position will lead efforts to create a culture of fundraising at GOKiC and expand annual fundraising capacity to scale our programs and ensure GOKiC’s sustainability into the future. The ideal candidate embraces the opportunity to lead and drive the adoption and implementation of Community-Centric Fundraising practices, ethical storytelling, and integrated advocacy. They should also have knowledge in using a decolonized lens to create equitable fundraising.

The Development Director is a strategic leader, seasoned fundraiser, and community and relationship builder. The Development Director will be responsible for overseeing research and identification of public, foundation and corporate grant prospects; Overseeing the writing and submitting of grants, including detailed budgets; cultivating and stewarding relationships with individual and major donors, as well as institutional and corporate funders; and helping plan and coordinate fundraising events.

Salary: $75,000 - $90,000 Salary per year full time salaried 32 -40 hours per week

Requirements

Major Responsibilities:

Fund Development Planning and Implementation::

  • The job duties of the Development Director include, but are not exclusive to, building and managing a results-oriented, effective fund development team and infrastructure to support all fundraising and stewardship activities of GOKiC, providing leadership in managing a team and expanding it over the next few years to accommodate organizational growth, and working with the Executive Director to ensure financial sustainability.

  • Develop strategies to harness existing relationships and identify and secure new individual and major donors, and partnerships with corporations and institutional foundations.

  • Lead, train, motivate, and partner with staff and board on fundraising goals, donor cultivation, and best practices.

  • Actively engage in ongoing prospect research to identify donors and prioritize funding opportunities.

  • Work with Executive Director to convene and leverage the support of Major Donor Campaign Steering Committee, and help identify and recruit committee chairs.

  • Lead the planning and execution of fundraising events, including the annual gala.

  • Manage existing development team including regular supervision and annual performance reviews, and grow team to balance strengths in grant writing, individual giving, etc.

  • Promote a culture of Community-Centric Fundraising amongst staff, board, and donors.

  • Lead and support Board of Directors, volunteers, and staff involved in the solicitation process with reliable donor research, solicitation materials, coaching, and follow-up

  • Create a portfolio of high-level donors through a moves management process that includes cultivation, solicitation and stewardship including donor acknowledgement and recognition, annual reports, and informing donors of the impact of their gifts

  • Understand and interpret for private contributors, a range of giving opportunities consistent with GOKiC's priorities and strategic directions, especially those opportunities that result in major and endowed gifts

  • Direct all annual fundraising drives

  • Overseeing grant management, writing and Fundraising

  • Oversee and manage the use of fundraising database and tracking systems

  • Partner with Executive Director to create fundraising materials including, but not limited to, newsletters, social media, stories, videos and website updates

  • Must embrace the mission of GOKiC and our goal of running a decolonial organization

  • Act as a budget owner for full development department

Staff Management:

  • Hire and Supervise one direct report that supports grants, data input, and communications.

  • Provide vision, appropriate coaching, mentoring and support; and quality human resource management, including regular check-ins, feedback, and performance evaluation of direct reports.

  • Develop onboarding process and training materials for program staff, volunteers, and interns.

  • Oversee recruitment, training, and management of development and communications staff, volunteers, and interns.

Leadership:

  • Serve as a member of GOKiC Senior Management Team.

  • Provide input for GOKiC organizational strategic plan

  • Participate in Strategic Planning and implementation of Strategic Action Plan for GOKiC, nationally.

  • Support HR with all staff meeting organization and planning of training and professional development opportunities within staff meetings.

  • Partner with Program Director, Operations Manager, & Executive Director to support Education team and organization when they are not available.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Passion for Education in BIPOC communities.

  • Give and receive candid, constructive feedback and clearly describe the context, parameters, and reasons for decisions while remaining impartial.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and accomplish a wide variety of tasks or demands.

  • Experience working independently and collaborating effectively with a team in a demanding environment.

  • Ability to anticipate challenges and problem-solve in advance; someone who naturally develops backup plans and is adaptable.

  • A logistical mindset; enjoys building plans behind the scenes and seeing projects through.

  • The drive to constantly improve systems and the ability to work independently and proactively.

  • Ability to understand and accurately carry out oral and written instructions, and request clarification when needed.

  • Ability to maintain detailed, accurate records.

  • QuickBooks, CRM, Google docs, Gusto, and Monday.com experience is a plus.

  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Occasional travel by car to attend meetings or support education team within Seattle, WA.
